black body

A body that absorbs all the radiation incident on it. Such an object is a theoretical ideal and the nearest approximation achievable in the laboratory is a small hole in an enclosure held at a uniform temperature. The intensity of the radiation emitted by a black body and the way it varies with wavelength depend only on the temperature of the body and can be predicted by quantum theory.
